If you are considering becoming a vegetarian you need to understand from the start that it is a lot more than just a change in diet. Actually, it is better described as a new lifestyle decision. Many aspects of your life will be altered and that extends past just the food you put in your mouth.

Because it is a considerable lifestyle change, getting ready for life as a vegetarian should not be taken lightly. Getting your body and mind ready for the transition to vegetarianism can take several weeks and should not be rushed. The journey is not only a physical change of diet, it is a spiritual, ethical and emotional journey as well.
Life without meat requires an all new approach to meal preparation. You will need new recipes and new techniques when shopping for the foods you need. 

Making things more complicated, if you are living with someone that is not vegetarian, it can mean preparing two menus per night.  Additionally, you may need to chill out a little so you can have a vegetarian meal while others are eating meat.  A touch of relationship building and some tolerance by you and by the meat lovers in your home may be necessary so everybody can dine in peace.

One of the biggest adjustments you may have to make is being a vegetarian in a world of meat eaters. Just like changing any habit, be prepared for some cravings as well. Suddenly your body isn’t getting the protein levels it has become accustomed to and so craving for meat is not uncommon while your body gets used to a lowered intake of that food group.

Definitely consider a slow transition to vegetarianism so that your body can adjust to your new diet. This way you are less likely to feel run down or suffer from vitamin deficiencies during the transition to a full vegetarian eating regimen.
